Joshua - Singapore/Canada
Posted: Jan 26 2016
Joshua lives in Canada, but every time he visits his family in Singapore, he comes to see us in Bangkok. In the past he had three suits made here at Tailor On Ten, and this time he is picking up a few shirts and a new pair of pants for his favorite Tailor On Ten navy suit.
Nice to see you again, Joshua. Can you tell us where you are from and what you do?
I’m originally from Singapore, but I've been living in Canada for a decade, more precisely in Montreal, where I work in finance.
Being Canadian, we obviously love Canada. How do you like it?
It’s great, but like every other place it has its pros and cons. I like the way Montreal is more laid back than Southeast Asia, and how people are more relaxed and friendly, but on the other hand I struggle with winter and the bureaucracy. Things are much more efficient in Singapore.
What brings you to Bangkok?
I come here on holidays with my family every time I visit them in Singapore, we love the food and the city is reasonably priced. I come here every summer, and as you know this is not my first time at Tailor On Ten. I also travel around Asia quite a lot during my summer holidays.
What is your favourite destination in Asia?
My favorite destination in Asia is probably Tokyo, actually Japan altogether. I like it because while in Southeast Asia it is easy to find similarities between different countries, Japan is a completely different experience. Japanese culture is so far apart from anything I have experienced in my other travels.
Let’s talk about style. Do you remember your first suit?
Yes I do, an off the rack suit. I spend over two hundred dollars for it and on top I had to pay more to get it altered. It just doesn’t make sense now that I know that I can come to Tailor On Ten and get a dapper suit for roughly the same money.
What do you ask for when you get fitted by our staff?
What I look for is a modern, young look, but without straying from classic elegance. I like slim fits and slim lapels just to name a couple of details.
What is your favourite Tailor On Ten garment?
I had three suits made here, and the one I wear the most is a navy blue two piece suit made from Vitale Barberis Canonico Super 110s. I love this suit because it is a great fit and the colour is striking. It’s the kind of combination that I can comfortably wear for both work and play. I used the suit so much, that this time I came in for an extra pair of pants, since they tend to wear out more quickly than the jacket.
Thank you for your time Joshua, enjoy your holiday, and we hope to see you again soon!
Joshua is wearing a navy and brown check shirt, detailed with solid navy inside the collar and cuffs, as well as navy button holes (which you can start designing here). A great shirt for an elegant weekend, or a trendy alternative worn with a solid tie and his navy suit to the office.
