Niklas - Sweden
Posted: Sep 21 2015
Mr Niklas Gabrielsson, aka Niklas Lind, visited us recently. The Swedish part of our team claimed to recognize Niklas from somewhere, which we contested (“right, you all know each other?”) until Niklas mentioned he needed clothes to make him look awesome on stage… Ahh, he’s a famous musician in Sweden - now it all makes sense! With a brand new EP just out, of course he needed some fresh new threads, and he came to the right place; “Everything I got from you fits like well-tailored gloves!” Maybe gloves should be our next leather venture… For now, we decided to play celebrity reporters for a day and sat down with Niklas to talk about his musical career and on-stage clothing decisions.
Where are you from and what do you do?
I’m from Sweden and I’m an artist/musician. When I don’t play my own music I play with artists such as Robyn, Eagle-Eye Cherry, Neneh Cherry, Seinabo Sey och Sixto Rodriguez (of Searching for Sugar Man fame, a fantastic film - ed. note).
When did you start making music?
I have been singing and playing since I was 5-6 years old. My dad is a drummer, so I got that since I was a kid. I’ve been writing music professionally for the past 10 years.
What has been your favorite on-stage moment?
There’s so many. I love being on stage. But the first time I played in Rio de Janeiro with Eagle-Eye in front of 20,000 people was powerful. Otherwise I actually prefer smaller venues for the musical intimacy.
Was this your first time getting clothes made - what did you think?
No, I have had a few shirts made in the past. And got some on stage clothes made for me over the years. But this was the first time I’ve gone all in. A fantastic experience. The three piece suit and the shirts you made for me fit like armor.
What do you think of when you are making suits for wearing on stage?
Except that they have to be crazy good looking, they can’t be too warm. Especially if I’m playing the drums.
Who had the biggest influence on your style?
That has to be Frank Sinatra.
What did you think of Bangkok? Did you find any favorite spots?
Bangkok is a crazy, wonderful city! Beautiful, dirty, friendly, intense and huge. The food is divine and the people are amazingly kind. The only thing I missed a little bit was a good live stage for non-Thai music. Though the sky bars at Muse and Banyan Tree are unbeatable.
It’s not always easy to find the hidden gems in Bangkok, which is why TOT Recommends is here to help. Our favorite live blues bar is listed right here! As for Frank Sinatra style, we had Niklas covered with a three piece suit in classic pinstripe from Vitale Barberis Canonico. In the photos we see Niklas wearing it at the Grammis 2015 (that’s the Swedish equivalent of the Grammy Awards). To check out how the suits were made, click here!
