TOT Weddings: Emily & David
Posted: Oct 20 2015
Emily and David got married earlier this year and as soon as we saw the photos, we knew this was one ceremony destined to the TOT Wedding Series. The newlyweds were kind enough to tell us the story of their special day...
First, David, tell us a little bit about where you’re from and what you do for a living.
Born in London UK, I moved to Columbus Ohio 5 years ago, where I joined Ballet Met and where I met my wife, fellow dancer Emily, who was born in Columbus and has spent her career dancing in Ohio. That's right, we are classical ballet dancers. I joined my first professional company at 18 in Leeds England, Northern Ballet. Dancing in America had always been something I aspired to do in my career. I was drawn to the dancers' fearless style, opportunity to perform diverse choreography, and the vocal audiences! But then I didn't want to leave, and found something special in the small midwestern city of Columbus.
Any highlights you’d like to share about your city?
London is still my home away from home, and my family keeps the city alive while I don't get to visit so often. Columbus, Ohio is a fast growing city with a strong four seasons, meaning you can snowboard in the winter an hour away and lay by the pool in 95°F weather in the summer. But fall here is wonderful and our favorite season- pumpkin picking farms, Halloween street parties and a diverse range of fashion.
Where did you and your beautiful bride meet? What’s the story?
We met when I moved to the States and joined the company that we both work for. We were cast to dance together in the Nutcracker ballet at Christmas time, and we became good friends. She visited me in London that summer, and we have been together ever since!
What was the theme of the wedding and the photos?
We didn't have a particular theme per se, but drew our inspiration from our trip to Italy (where we were engaged), and the Art Deco era as well, which we both love. We wanted a classic and elegant event, with a sort of 20's aesthetic. Our photographer is a dear friend who is a fashion photographer and who has worked with us as dancers and models for her fine art work.
What was the inspiration for your wedding attire?
I was inspired by a couple of tuxedos from my favorite designers, especially in this case Tom Ford and Lanvin. But I really wanted something that was uniquely mine and made to my exact specifications. We had also just performed in a production of the Great Gatsby, so again, the 20's era was on my mind.
Who spent the most time selecting wedding outfits, you or the bride?
Well, she tried on many gowns, and I spent a lot of time designing my tux so maybe we were about even!
How did you find out about Tailor On Ten and how did you enjoy the experience?
I found Tailor On Ten through research and great reviews. We were going to be traveling to Bangkok and I set my mind to meeting with Ben and having a custom suit made. I was extremely pleased with my experience start to finish, and my suit came out perfectly. Using measurements from that meeting, I was able to order my wedding tuxedo from the States. I will definitely continue to use Tailor On Ten to design and create in the future.
Such kind words from such an elegant gentleman warms our hearts. So does the sight of his beautiful silk-faced Super 140s tuxedo from Vitale Barberis Canonico, and of course happiness of the gorgeous couple, whom we wish all the best in married life!
